My Own Words

My Own Words Analysis

My Own Words is a biography of the life and achievements of the American Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The book was written by Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams and seeks to collect and analyze some of Ginsburg’s more prominent speeches and stances on women’s rights. The biography was published by Simon & Schuster on October 2016.

The biography covers the key points of Ginsburg’s career, including her struggle in being taken seriously as a lawyer, being a Jewish American woman. Moreover, the book strives to break down the US constitution and evaluate the impact of Ginsburg’s contribution in the legal sector to the present day. Other topics covered include her relationship with other prominent justices, such as Sandra Day O'Connor and Antonin Scalia.

The biography was very well received, with USA Today stating, "What emerges is…a strategic legal plotter who understands how to bring her audience around to her point of view.” The New Republic stated, "The selection showcases her astonishing intellectual range, from law and lawyers in opera… to the significance and form of dissenting opinions.”
