Murtagh Morzansson
Murtagh is the central character in Murtagh by Christopher Paolini. He is the son of Morzan, Eragon's stepbrother. The narrator describes Murtagh as an intelligent, powerful, and exceptionally skilled swordsman. Murtagh grew up under difficult conditions that hardened him to become a strong young man.
While growing up, Murtagh was forced to work for Galbatorix. However, working for Galbatorix helped Murtagh learn how to fight using swords and facing difficult situations without fear. Murtagh inherited Galbatorix's magical strength and fearlessness, making him have no empathy for others. Murtagh's best friend is his dragon horse, Thorn. Regarding relationships, Murtagh is romantic and has feelings for Nasuada, but he is not ready to express his desire because he knows society cannot approve of his choices.
Galbatorix
Galbatorix is a 120-year-old tyrant and human king of the Empire. Galbatorix is the strongest man in the Empire, and he always revenges against those who provoke him. For instance, when the Urgals kill his dragon called Jarnunvösk, Galbatorix revenges by killing all the riders in his kingdom. After Galbatorix kills all the riders, he gains immense authority and rises to power in the human kingdom. After gaining power, Galbatorix steals a dragon called Shruikan, which helps him derive much magical power from dragons.
Nasuada
Nasuada is Ajihad and Nadura's daughter, a human member of the Wondering tribe. Nasuada is an intelligent and cunning woman with courage and the determination to lead. After her father's death, Nasuada is appointed the head of the Varden. The people of Eragon and her locals trust Nasuada, which necessitates her becoming the queen of the Empire.
Roran Garrowsson
Roran is the cousin of Eragon, and they grow up together in Carvahall. The narrator describes Roran as an exceptional motivational orator. Despite Roran having internal conflicts with his wife, Katrina, he does not like violence. Roran discourages Eragon from starting wars that kill innocent people like Garrow. In addition, Roran is a forgiving person because he reconciles with Eragon and encourages him to be humane in whatever he does.
Orik Thrifksson
Orik is the shortest person in the Dûrgrimst Ingeitum clan, and people call him the dwarf. Orik is also King Hrothgar's nephew. After the death of King Hrothgar, Orik becomes the new king of Ingeitum. Orik is an intelligent leader who brings his people together and teaches them the significance of living in harmony.
Thorn
Thorn is a reddish gigantic male dragon owned by Murtagh. Thorn is obedient, fearless, and protective. Whenever Murtagh rides Thorn, he feels safe and courageous because they fight as a team to ensure they demolish all enemies that come their way. The people close to Thorn call him the Red Shrike to show love and honor.
