Miracle on 34th Street is a Christmas classic film directed by George Seaton who also wrote the screenplay based on the story by Valentine Davies. The picture was released in 1947 and was produced by William Perlberg with a budget of $630,000. It would go on to gross $2,650,000 worldwide in theaters. It stars Marueen O'Hara, John Payne, and Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle. Gwenn's character claims to be Santa Claus and is institutionalized as everyone believes him to be insane. Perlberg plays Fred, who decides to quit his job at a major law firm to defend Kris. He is able to get him out of insanity charges and in the end is able to become a family with Doris and her daughter.
The motion picture would go on to with three Academy Awards, they include: Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Writing-Original Story and Best Writing-Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Picture and won 2 Golden Globes. It was distributed by 20th Century Fox and has been remade, most recently in 2009.
