Michael Vey
The protagonist of the series, Michael is a fifteen-year-old kid with the power to control electricity and energy. He has Tourette's syndrome, which causes him to have occasional facial "tics" under stress. Michael has a deep sense of loyalty to his friends and family, causing him to infiltrate the Elgen compound in order to save his mother and to sacrifice his freedom to allow everyone else to escape.
Taylor
Michael's girlfriend, a cheerleader with electric powers that allow her to "reboot" people's minds, as well as read them when in physical contact with the person. She is kind-hearted and as fiercely loyal as Michael.
Dr. Hatch
The executive director and former CEO of Elgen, Inc., and head of the Neo-Species Genesis program, which deals with the electric children. He is the main antagonist of the series, operating from a desire for power alongside a Nietzschean sense of superiority for the electric teens, playing into his "chickens and eagles" metaphor.
Ostin
Michael's best friend and resident genius; he is the source of all information dumps and random bits of trivia, as well as the source of the plans and useful pieces of intelligence.
Zeus
Formerly known as Frank, Zeus turned his back on Hatch and joined Vey's crew in the course of the first novel. He has the ability to shoot lightning bolts, and he and Jack are competing for the affections of Abigail.
Ian
Another one of Hatch's former pupils, Ian is a blind teenager with the ability to see through electrolocation. His special sight comes in handy many times in the course of the novel.
McKenna
Another electric teenager, McKenna has the ability to emit light and heat from any part of her body. She joins Michael and friends in the battle against the Elgen.
Abigail
Abigail has the power to take away pain by electrically stimulating nerve endings. She is the most sympathetic of the Electroclan, as well as the object of competition between Jack and Zeus.
Jack
A former high school bully of Michael's, Jack is now a dedicated and loyal member of the Electroclan, having been kidnapped and turned into a human guinea pig by the Elgen. He is strong-willed and stubborn, and he rarely passes up the opportunity to punch someone. He and Zeus are competing for the affections of Abigail.
Grace
An electric teenager, rescued from Hatch in the previous novel, whose power allows her to download and re-upload massive amounts of data from computers. The information she stole from the Elgen's mainframe is vital for the Electroclan's rescue.
Wade
Jack's friend, a slightly less strong and intelligent former bully of Michael. An almost equally dedicated member of the Electroclan.
Tara
Taylor's identical twin sister, loyal to Dr. Hatch. She is far less compassionate than her sister and is often used by Hatch to fool people into thinking she's Taylor. She also has electric abilities that affect the mind, but unlike Taylor, she makes her targets have terrible hallucinations.
