Michael Vey: Rise of the Elgen Book 2 Background

Michael Vey: Rise of the Elgen is a young adult science fiction novel written by Richard Paul Evans and published by Simon Pulse/Mercury Ink in August of 2012. It is the second installment in a seven-part series (Michael Vey) that revolves around young adults with various impressive superpowers, blending science fiction and fantasy. The series was completed in 2017 with the publication of Michael Vey: The Final Spark.

This novel continues where the first left off, following the life of teenage superhuman Michael Vey, who has the power to control electricity. At the outset, the goal is to rescue Michael's mother, who is held hostage, but it rapidly expands in scope.

Michael Vey: Rise of the Elgen was not quite as successful as its predecessor (Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25), which won the Young Readers' Choice award and debuted at #1 on the New York Times Chapter Book List, and which is still the best-selling Michael Vey novel. The second book did, however, still earn the Young Readers' Choice Award in 2012.
