Maybe Nonna's right. Maybe we are all cursed.

Josie, "Looking for Alibrandi"

Josie's road to self-reconciliation and self-acceptance as well as reconciliation with people in her life is shown as being a bumpy road with its ups and downs. Soon Josie will find out that the curse her grandmother, and she at this moment of despair believes to be a part of her family, comes from dishonesty with oneself and with loved ones.

It's like I started reading a book in the middle, but I don't know what happened at the beginning.

Michael, "Looking for Alibrandi"

Josie's father comes back into her life and neither of them know what to make of the situation. In a turn of events they get closer to each other and start a journey of getting to know each other as a father and daughter. As it happens, things get complicated and her father confesses to Josie about his helplessness and regret because of not being by her side.

But I know now what's important is who I feel I am. I'm Christine and Michael's daughter and I'm Katia's granddaughter. And we are not cursed, we're blessed.

Josie, "Looking for Alibrandi"

The movie ends with Josie finally accepting herself for who she is and all the complications that come with it. The entire movie showed her struggle with refusing to be true to herself, like with her unfortunate unrequited love or her refusal to accept being a part of her complicated family. She decides to have a different outlook in life, and to see things more positively. The movie can be seen as a partial coming of age story of Josie, her growth from insecurity and anger into mature positivity.
