Looking for Alibrandi (Film) Imagery

A glance at Josie's life

Kate Woods starts the film ‘Looking for Alibrandi' by introducing Josie's daily schedules and interactions. For instance, the audience sees how Josie wakes up with optimism about achieving daily objectives. Similarly, the audience sees how Josie interacts with her family and friends. Josie feels betrayed and annoyed whenever Carly makes negative racial comments against her. Josie and her colleagues' interactions are strained because they treat her with skepticism and discriminate against her in all aspects.

John’s Death

The imagery of John's suicide shows Josie's frustration and despair. John was one of the people who stood up for her and offered support. Unfortunately, his death leaves Josie more horrified than ever, and she feels frustrated. The reader sees the close relationship between Josie and John, and now the gap that has been left cannot be filled.

Josie’s meeting with her father

The scene in which Josie meets her biological father depicts the imagery of joy and fulfillment. At the meeting point, Josie looks confused, but she cannot hide her joy. The audience notices that despite being bitter about her father's absence in her life, she is happy and wants to form a relationship with him. They start building a foundation between them, and Josie is up for the task. The author uses this imagery to highlight the importance to Josie of having her father in her life.
