War

Marcus writes, “This was payback time for the World Trade Center. We were coming after the guys who did it. If not the actual guys, then their blood brothers, the lunatics who still wished us dead and might try it again… Here we go again, guys going to war, to another trouble spot, another half-assed enemy willing to try their luck against us." Marcus is among the SEALs who are required to revenge on behalf of America. They are determined to exterminate America’s enemies based on the declaration they make before the commence the war. Their objective is to destroy the parties directly or indirectly associated with the destruction of the WTC.

Extremism

Marcus expounds, "Afghanistan. This was very different. Those mountains up in the northeast, the western end of the mighty range of the Hindu Kush, were the very same mountains where the Taliban had sheltered the lunatics of al Qaeda, shielded the crazed followers of Osama bin Laden while they plotted the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on 9/11." Extremism is rife in Afghanistan based on the conclusions which the SEALs have before embarking on the mission to destroy them. The terrain in Afghanistan bids the terrorist an ample ground to hide and conduct their extremist activities. Talibans are the epitomes of extreme radicalization in Afghanistan.

Media and Objectivity

Marcus elucidates, “I promise you, every insurgent, freedom fighter, and stray gunman in Iraq who we arrested knew the ropes, knew that the way out was to announce he had been tortured by the Americans, ill treated, or prevented from reading the Koran…They all knew al-Jazeera, the Arab broadcasters, would pick it up, and it would be relayed to the U.S.A., where the liberal media would joyfully accuse all of us of being murderers or barbarians.” Extremists use the media to fight against the SEALs. Although the stories on al-Jazeera are not utterly accurate, they are utilized in evoking the public’s pathos specifically the liberals who consider the war as a violation of the Arab’s rights. Media companies such as al-Jazeera which report on the false stories covertly endorse terrorism by airing stories which are sympathetic to the terrorists. Accordingly, deficiency of objectivity in the media is contributory to the endurance of extremism.
