London Fields is set in 1999 London.
In the beginning of the novel, Samson is shown to be grateful for having found this story. When he arrives in London, he meets Keith Talent, a minor criminal and cheat. Keith poses as a minicab driver and gives Sam a ride while they talk in his car. They then go to Black Cross where Sam comes across Guy Clinch, a rich guy who is bored with his life as well as his wife, Hope.
They soon meet Nicola, the anti-heroine, who has come to the pub after she attended a funeral (something that is very common for her). Later, Sam sees Nicola throwing something dramatically in the flat where he lives. This turns about to be a set of diaries, reading which Sam gets to know that she believes she can see her future and is hence plotting her murder. He starts documenting the events that follow. It is assumed that Keith will be the murderer and is soon revealed that he will be provoked by Guy.
