London Fields Irony

London Fields Irony

What a name!

Keith Talent, who is one of the main characters, has a very meaningful surname. It is a bit ironic, because, having such a name, Keith is an ordinary evil bandit, who often gambles and drinks alcohol. There is some sort of contrast between Keith and his name.

Very significant trouble

Once, standing in a filming pavilion full of hidden noise, Keith sees a sign with the saddest words that he has ever read: “NO SMOKING”. On the one hand, it is sad, because he is a smoker. However, on the other hand, it is ridiculous, because some people have more important problems than he has.

Like father, like son

The relationship between Guy and his son Marmaduke are not good. “Guy starts f*cking around with the way his baby look.” Marmaduke is an uncontrolled child. It is very terrible, but also ironic, because Guy does not realize that he gives a bad example to his son, abandoning his family for Nicola’s sake. As we know, children take an example of their parents’ actions.

Women and their vagaries

Finally, Nicola explains to Sam what women want. They all want to stay current and up. “Among themselves they all want to be bigger-breasted, browner, better in bed – all that.” They want to be a piece of everything. “They want to be in. They all want to be the bitch in the book.” It is ironic, because Nicola ridicules all women, despite the fact that she is also a woman.
