Little Brother Irony

Banning of umbrellas

When Marcus’ favorite game was banned because the terrorists could use it in their goals, the boy said “if I got hit by lightning while walking with an umbrella? Ban umbrellas! Fight the menace of lightning!” Thus, he expressed his angry stance on this situation because he was always playing this game; it’s just funny for him, the way in which the terrorists could use this game.

Jailers are cheerleaders

When Marcus first saw his captors in the prison, he said that they “could have been half-time show cheerleaders on the Super Bowl.” Thus, he showed that they looked like the common mass of people, who can’t do anything dangerous and serious to him. This disparity just strengthens the reader’s sense of of their awful power and the result of its action – spoiled lives of many people.

Powerless president

When Marcus was afraid how to arrange the press-conference with the journalists, Ange said: “…if the President can manage it, I'm sure you can. He looks like he can barely tie his shoes without help.” She shows her attitude to the President, how helpless he is for her, unequipped to keep his people in safe though he is the head of the whole country.
