Inside/Out
We see Sarah standing by the door at the front of the house. There is plastic covering the walls inside, and through the open door we see trees, greenery, and nature. The contrast within the imagery reveals to us that what seems so natural outside has caused their home to be turned into a place of death where they are afraid to let what is outside in.
Push In
Shults pushes the camera in on Travis as he sits between his dad and mom at the dinner table. The camera then shifts to Sarah as they talk about what to do with Will. It is Sarah's advice that they follow through to use and the imagery shows us two things: we are uncertain what is happening with Travis as he has been having nightmares that only we, the audience has seen, this creates suspense for us watching; and secondly the camera move reveals the decision being made by Sarah as it favors her.
Boxed In
We see Paul driving his truck, and through the rearview mirror we see Will. He's framed within the frame by the mirror and then framed once more inside the rearview mirror by the edges of the sliding window between the cab of the truck and the bed where he sits. The imagery shows that Will is being zoned in on as Paul has no idea who this man is or whether his intentions are good or evil.
Reflection
We see Travis coming down the stairs with a lantern after a nightmare. There is a mirror to the left of frame that reflects him and the light causing the composition to have a dual impression of him coming down the stairs from both sides of the frame. This imagery reveals that Travis is a young man who is caught between his nightmares and the terror of death that is lurking and the reality of his situation while he is awake.
