Essay Questions

  1. 1

What major quandary befalls the trio kids when they travel back in time to Paris?

At first, when the trio kids make up their minds to travel back to Paris, they think it is going to be easy for them to make upfront right decisions. However, when they arrive, they find that the situation is different from their expectations. There are two sides from which they must make a sound decision in which to side with. There are the Viking incursion and Parisians. They are still kids and they are trying to make their moral verdict but they do not have adequate time to do so. The quandary in this scenario is that they do not know which side to lean on because they are still young and are unable to make prompt decisions. They are scared that they are going to be caught with the side that is likely to lose in the war.

  2. 2

Based on the trio kids’ experience, what is the distinction between the real war and the knowledge children get in school concerning war?

The knowledge of war passed to learners in school forms part of history. Children get to imagine how the war looks like in reality and contrast to what they are learning in history classes. In general, the history taught in classrooms is meant for memory purposes only. However, for the trio kids, they are caught in the midst of war and they are able to do a practical contrast of what the real war looks like and the history they learned in class. During the war, the trio kids are seeing how everything unfolds including the streaming in statistics of the number of people who are dying. The large number of people dying from war is scary and they even think that if they die, the death toll will just increase by three which is not comparable with the high numbers that are streaming from war victims. Therefore, the primary distinction between classroom history and practical war is that history is meant for memorization but practical war reveals the reality on the ground.

The infinity ring is symbolically used, so what does it represent in the novel?

The trio kids' primary purpose for the back travel in time is to acquire the consecrated infinity ring. The ring for them is essential for continuity of life. However, the readers' interpretation of the infinity ring is slightly different because they view it as a symbol that represents the endless global conflicts. The conflict between the Vikings and the Parisians is not the first and the last one because such conflicts have existed before and they are bound to reoccur in the future. Additionally, the infinity ring is a symbol that represents what the trio kids have to go through in their lives.
