First signs of the hospital
It is a very terrible feeling, when you do not remember absolutely anything about some days of your life. When Professor Langdon regains consciousness in the hospital, the room is bright. He is alone. “The sharp smell of medicinal alcohol hangs in the air, and somewhere a machine pings in quiet rhythm with his heart. He looks down and sees an IV tugging at the skin of his forearm.” These items help him to guess that something bad has happened to him. Unfortunately, he has an amnesia. He should get to know what has happened.
La Mappa dell ‘Inferno
When Sienna shows Langdon a biocapsule for the transport of dangerous substances, Professor Langdon opens it immediately. Inside of it, there is a cylinder of the carved bone, which turns out to be a mini-projector. It projects a picture of Botticelli’s “Map of Hell”, which illustrates the part of Dante’s Divine Comedy. “The underworld is portrayed as a cutaway cross section of the earth, in which plunges a cavernous funnel-shaped pit of unfathomable depth. This pit of hell is divided into descending terraces of increasing misery, each level populated by tormented sinners of every kind.” This map is a clue to the secret, which Robert must reveal.
Dante’s death mask
This mask has a very significant role for the whole of humanity. Dante’s mask, which is retrieved from the lockers at the Venice train station, “appears to be in flawless condition with one small exception—the addition of a poem, inscribed in an elegant spiral shape, on its reverse side.” Exactly, this poem helps Robert and Sienna to get to know about the whereabouts of the virus, which was created by Zobrist.
