Inferno Character List

Robert Langdon

Harvard professor of symbology and art. He is contacted by Elizabeth Sinskey to help her translate the Map of Hell. She insisted that he travels with her to Florence, Italy in hopes of helping her crisis.

In Florence, Robert was taken hostage and was made believe that he was shot and almost died. He was injected with a medicine that erased the memories of having accepted to work with Elizabeth Sinskey.

Even if Langdon's suffers from memory loss, his knowledge of Dante's Divine Comedy allowed him to solve the clues that led him to find Zobrist's plague.

After Langdon is captured by the SRS he learns that the Provost men wiped his memory and then set up the theatricality that he was in danger. Then he learned that Sienna was Zobrist's lover who wanted to find the plague.

Langdon followed Sienna up to the cistern just before it was discovered that the bag that contained the plague had already burst. Sienna revealed to him that she didn't want to spread the plague, which caused a portion of the population to be infertile.

Dr. Sienna Brooks

The doctor who treated Robert Langdon's injuries when he was sent to the hospital. Sienna was a child prodigy from the second she displayed an 208 on her I.Q. test. As a child, Sienna would read books, learn new languages and was also an actress, performing in school plays.

Sienna later began showing interest in Bertrand Zobrist's work and went to one of his lectures in Chicago. When Zobrist arrived the auditorium was nearly empty, so he invited the few guests to his hotel next door where they all had drinks while being lectured by him. After guests left, Zobrist and Sienna were all alone, so he invited her for a drink in his room and then they began dating.

Even if Sienna was Zobrist's lover, she was against his population control idea. As a result, Sienna worked alongside The Provost to determine the location of Zobrist's plague. Sienna pretended to be a doctor in the hospital where Robert Langdon woke up.

When Langdon discovered that Sienna was Zobrist's lover, they parted ways while she continued to search for the plague.

It was later revealed that Zobrist's plague had already been realized. Sienna decides to tell Elizabeth Sinskey and the WHO about the virus. Later on, she accepts a job working for the WHO, so she could help people understand the effects of the plague.

Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey

Director of the World Health Organization (W.H.O.), Elizabeth was the woman that Robert was having hallucinations when he first wakes in the hospital.

Sinskey was the person that recruited Langdon to help her with the Zobrist's plague. However, Robert was kidnapped by the Provost and wiped his memory. Langdon thought that Sinskey was kidnapped by the SRS men when he saw them giving her injections. It was later revealed that those injections were to help her deal with the symptoms of vertigo she suffered.

Originally, Zobrist had contacted Sinskey to find out about the earth's overpopulation. After sharing his ideas, Elizabeth tagged him as a possible bioterrorist. Zobrist was being chaised by W.H.O. agents, but he decided to kill himself instead of giving her information on the plague he created.

Zobrist's virus was released and it caused portions of the population to become infertile. Sinskey agreed that it was best not to undo Zobrist's plague and hires Sienna as a consultant regarding the plague.

Bertrand Zobrist

A Genetic Engineer who was obsessed with Dante's world to the point of creating a plague that could save the world from the Apocalypse. After getting rejected by Elizabeth Sinskey, Zobrist decided to keep his work in private. In secrecy, Zobrist created a plague that caused thirty three percent of the population to become infertile.

Zobrist decided to place the plague in a plastic bag in the city cistern in Istanbul. Making sure that the plague reached an substantial amount of people, he decides to sponsor a week long concert in the cistern.

Zobrist was discovered when he decided to rent a safe deposit box containing something that he wanted Sinskey to have. Facial recognition identified him as a bioterrorist.

Zobrist killed himself after being followed by Sinskey.

Vayentha

The Provost's fake assassin, she is hired to pretend to kill people. She was the one who "shot" Dr. Marconi in the hospital. Her gun only shot blanks, so she's unable to really kill somebody. After unsuccessfully getting Robert Langdon, she was removed from her duties. However, after learning that the SRS had not yet captured him, she decides to continue her hunt for Langdon in hopes of saving her job.

Vayentha was killed after Sienna pushed her off the platform above the Hall of Five Hundred because Sienna thought she was going to kill Langdon.

Marta Alvarez

Employee at the Palazzo Vecchio, where the Hall of Five Hundred is located. She was the tour guide that allowed Langdon and Ignazio into the the museum after hours to view Dante's works.

Christoph Brüder

Head of the SRS team, he was ordered by Elizabeth Sinskey to find Robert Langdon after he was taken away from her.

Jonathan Ferris aka Dr. Marconi

Employee for the Provost, he disguised himself as Dr. Marconi who was "shot" by Vayentha in the hospital where Langdon was attacked.

The narrator plays close attention to Ferris' rash thinking that it might have been caused by the plague. It was later revealed that the rash was caused by an allergic reaction to the glue used to stick a beard and bushy eyebrows when he had to play Dr. Marconi. His breathing problems where caused by when Vayentha shot him with blanks.

The Provost

Owner and operator of the Consortium, a business that is dedicated to preserve the privacy of their clients. After seeing Zobrist's video, he decides to do everything he can to stop the plague from getting out.

He later decides to work with Sinskey in order to convince Robert Langdon that they were not trying to hurt him. In the end, he was arrested by the Turkish government after it was known that he had covered for Zobrist so that he could create the plague.

Ignazio Busoni

Director of the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. He was with Robert Langdon when they decided to steal Dante's death mask from the Palazzo Vecchio. Ignazio was the one that kept the death mask and hid it somewhere. Before having a heart attack, Ignazio gave Robert instructions on how to locate the mask.

Mirsat

Tour guide at the Hagia Sophia who gave Robert, Sinskey and Brüder a private tour. Mirsat was irritated when Langdon insisted on only seeing the tomb of Enrico Dandolo.

After learning that Robert is looking for Zobrist's plague, Mirsat became more cooperative, taking them to the city cistern, where they believe Zobrist hid the plague.

Laurence Knowlton

Agent that works for the Provost. He asked his boss to watch Zobrost's video before releasing it to the world.

Giorgio Venci

Disciple of Zobrist, who recognized Sienna's code name. Sienna goes to him in order to get transportation to Istanbul.

Jonas Faukman

Robert Langdon's publicist. Robert contacts him to arrange a flight for Sienna and him from Florence to Venice. They were not going to get on the flight since it was just to distract the authorities so they could travel to the correct place.
