House of Gucci Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

The symbolism of greed

Greed is symbolized by Patrizia’s manipulation of Rodolfo’s will to ensure that her husband gets 50% of the Gucci Company’s inheritance after the death of their father. When Rodolfo dies, Patricia and her husband get 50% share of the company. Additionally, Patrizia continues the manipulation until their acquire 100% control of the company leaving their relatives without nothing.

Rodolfo as a symbol of fatherly love

When Rodolfo learns that his son is dating Patrizia, he senses danger and tries to discourage him from marrying her. However, Maurizio refuses to listen to his father’s advice and decides to marry Patrizia. Rudolfo is angry and he disowns Maurizio. However, when Rudolfo realizes that Patrizia is pregnant for Maurizio, he forgives him and invites him back to the family. Rudolfo shows parental love when he includes Maurizio in his will to include him as one of the key beneficiaries of the Gucci Fashion Company.

Maurizio as a symbol of treachery

Maurizio is a symbol of betrayal because he sidelines his wife, Patrizia, after gaining 100% control of the Gucci Fashion Company. Maurizio forgets that it is his wife who manipulated the will to ensure that he gets a larger share of the company. Similarly, it is Patrizia who pushed for 100% ownership of the company. However, after Maurizio got drunk with power and money, he chased his wife to Italy. Patrizia could not take it anymore when Maurizio sent divorce papers.

The Gucci Fashion Company as a symbol of Vanity

Vanity of the worldly riches is symbolized by Maurizio’s death and the life imprisonment of Patrizia. Patrizia wanted her husband to own 100% of the Gucci Company and deny other relatives the benefits attributed from the company. Sardonically, Patrizia is chased away by her husband after getting a huge share of the company. Patrizia expected to enjoy life and riches after manipulating the will and ownership documents of the company. After killing her husband for revenge, Patrizia is imprisoned and the foreign partners take full control of the company. It is sad the company is operational till to but none of Rodolfo’s relatives who he included in the will is part of the company. Therefore, the Gucci Fashion Company only benefits foreigners since none of the relatives has a share in it.
