Patrizia Reggiani meets Maurizio Gucci, the heir apparent to the Gucci fashion dynasty, in 1978. They develop feelings for one another, and soon they are madly in love. Maurizio's father discourages him from marrying Patrizia and even threatens to disown him if he goes forward with it. He abandons the family and chooses Patrizia. For a while, they live normal lives and soon enough, Patrizia becomes pregnant.
This pregnancy paves the way for the reconciliation of the father and son. Rodolfo, Maurizio's father, includes him in the will before he dies but fails to finalize the transfer documents. Patrizia forges Rodolfo's credentials to finalize the document posthumously. Maurizio inherits his father's 50% of Gucci.
Maurizio takes a more active role in the company at the request of Patrizia who at this point is obsessed with owning the entire company. She quietly schemes to seize the rest of the company from their relatives. Later, the police invade Maurizio's home and try to apprehend him after it is revealed that Patrizia forged the documents that gave them 50% ownership of the company.
Maurizio and Patrizia start to disagree on matters pertaining to the company and their marriage. They grow apart and Maurizio sends Patrizia to Italy as he remains in Switzerland. His plans in the company fail, and he is forced to seek help from a foreign firm. Maurizio successfully acquires the rest of the company from his relatives.
After pushing Maurizio to take an active role in the family's company, Patrizia is sidelined and treated poorly by him. He asks for a divorce, which she rejects. Maurizio sinks the company into more financial trouble and the foreign firm are considering buying him out.
Patrizia becomes so furious with her husband that he hires hitmen who kill him. She is arrested and imprisoned. The Gucci fashion company is still operational to this day, but none of the Gucci family members are involved with the company.
