Reading Shakespeare
Kind of Activity:
Performance
Objective:
Students will practice reading aloud to aid in their critical thinking about the play.
Structure:
One of the most difficult parts about teaching Shakespeare is learning how to read him. One of the best ways to help students who are struggling is to have students read difficult passages aloud and discuss with the class what the passages mean.
Ask students which section they had particular trouble with, then assign the characters to different students and have them read the passages aloud. If your students are unsure, pick some key scenes (see the list in the Progressive Performance Day 1 Daily Activity).
