    Discuss King Henry's interest in crusading. What does this tell us about him and England at the time?

    Henry states that he wants to go on crusade because it is his duty, as a Christian but also as king, to fight the non-Christians who currently occupy the Holy Land. This tells us that he is deeply religious, or at least committed to the ideological position that Christians must take back the Holy Land, but it also tells us that he ties his religious belief into his royal duties. To be king was both a political and a religious position, it would seem.
