Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between Irony

Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between Irony

Clare's reason for the break-up is paradoxical

Clare and Aiden have had a romantic relationship for two years and have great plans for the future. However, a time comes when they must make tough decisions because they are going to distant colleges. According to Aiden, they can decide to join the same college or go elsewhere together to continue with their love. Aiden is committed to their love and wants it to work out. Paradoxically, Clare gives a cruel excuse concerning the history of her parents and tries to equate it to their current situation. Consequently, Clare's reasons for the break-up are unjustifiable. Deep in Clare's heart, she loves Aidan.

The irony of Stella and Scotty

At the begging of the story, when Scotty and Stella are introduced, they look casual about Aidan and Stella's relationship. The reader did not expect that, at some point, they would be very supportive of Clare and Aiden's relationship. The reader is shocked to see the intervention and help of Stella and Scotty when Clare and Aidan are making their difficult choices.

The irony of the last date

Aidan knows this is the last time he will see his love. Therefore, he has organized a special date with Clare. He has put on a special tuxedo to show Clare how serious he is with this relationship. Aidan wants to convince Clare they run away together to a different country to nourish their love. Ironically, the date is ruined by the abrupt arrival of friends in the restaurant. Aidan did not know that their friends were employees in the restaurant. The date that was meant to be a special one turned out to be a friendly dinner.
