About the Author

Margaret Atwood is a Canadian author who is best known for her science-fiction and fantasy stories. In 1961, Atwood published her first work, a pamphlet of poems called Double Persephone. She continued to publish poetry throughout the 1960s. In 1969, she published her first novel The Edible Woman. At the start of her career, she rode busses to give readings in gyms and sell books personally.

Atwood reached international acclaim in 1985 when The Handmaid’s Tale was published. This feminist dystopian took her career to the next level. In 2017, the book became a miniseries on the streaming service Hulu.
