Thermal
The Pilot watches troops with thermal imaging who were seconds before alive and hot on her screen turn to grey as they die. The imagery shows the life leaving these soldiers, and how there is a price that is paid from where she sits thousands of miles away from the battle.
Grey
The Pilot believes Sam has turned grey and she shakes her daughter alive, believing she is dead only to realize that Sam isn't grey at all. This imagery shows how the life of war that The Pilot lives in each day is seeping into her home life.
Court Martialed
The very end of the play is The Pilot, still alone speaking, with nearly every word capitalized. The imagery shows how this pilot has transformed from a soldier living her dream, to a human being who now has a new target, those who kill the innocent, the officers who command to kill children. And with every world we see the blood on her mouth.
Blue Skies
The Pilot describes her dream of piloting a fighter jet, how it feels to be up in the blue skies away from the earth. The imagery describes her dream in such a way that we believe her dream is significant and lofty. This image allows for the great crash that takes place when she is court martialed for not killing the target and his daughter.
