The Pilot
The only character on stage for the entirety of the play is an unnamed female fight pilot who has been removed from duty as a result of pregnancy. After giving birth, she returns to active duty, but instead of piloting jets over the skies of a Middle East desert in the war on terror, she pilots unmanned military drones from a windowless trailer at an unspecified location in the desert outside Las Vegas. Her 12-hour work days are occupied by training her eye upon the video footage sent from thousands of miles away to a computer screen with her finger always prepared to press the button that will detonate and kill unseen enemies by remote control. The play is a mounting sense of pressure and hysteria resulting from the pressure of the new job, the baby daughter waiting at home and the depressing reduction of excitement that marked this turning point from top gun to high stakes video gamer.
Eric
Eric is the pilot's husband and father of their daughter. He does not appear on stage, but instead is given form through the pilot's monologue. He has a sexual fetish for her in her fighter pilot uniform and in a reversal of roles, she refers to him as the little woman back home who knows what she's fighting for.
