Jim Collins
As well as being the author of the book, Collins is also the narrator of the story from a first person point of view. As well as that, he was the leader of the research team in the book and studied what characteristics made a person go from good to great.
Jim Stockdale
Stockdale served as an admiral for the United States during the Vietnam War. After him and his troops were captured and taken as prisoners of war, Stockdale led his men to endure the torture they were put through for the 8 years they were imprisoned. He told Collins the way he was able to do that was by maintaining hope that they would be rescued, but also thinking realistically and maintaining his grip on reality.
Colman Mockler
Known for being humble and fearless, the CEO of Gilette put the needs of his employees and the success of his company over his own financial gain. He trusted wholeheartedly in his advisors and cared greatly about the company. He led the company during the time period where they expanded and grew exponentially and went from good to great.
