The paradox of UPS
The UPS has good intentions of ensuring that all unborn children are safely delivered. The organization detains all pregnant women to a facility where they deliver safely to achieve its goal. Paradoxically, the facility practices 100% no abortion, forgetting that there are healthy women are at risk due to the same pregnancy. Similarly, some women got pregnant by mistake, and others due to rape. Therefore, the UPS is the incentive for women's health and care despite claiming that it protects the interests of unborn children.
The irony of Cedar’s pregnancy
Cedar's pregnancy is satirical in the entire text. The reader is shocked to realize that Cedar wants her pregnancy to be top-secret, which is impractical. Cedar's pregnancy is discovered and taken to a condiment facility despite hiding for some time. She later runs away but delivers safely in Still Water Birthing Facility.
Tia’s miscarriage
Tia is put in a confinement facility to ensure that she delivers safely. The objective of the UPS in the confinement facility is to save unborn children and ensure that they are delivered safely. Paradoxically, Tia gangs up with Cedar, and they kill a nurse on duty and escape. Later, the reader learns that Tia is shocked when she miscarries. Consequently, the paradox is that Tia runs away from a place where her unborn child is assured of safety to a point where she miscarries.
