Feed Imagery

Empty room

When Titus wakes up from being attacked by the hacker, he realizes that he is in a hospital room. The room is extremely empty, with just a few beds on which his friends sleep on. Titus looks at the empty room and at his friends and the image of Titus’s friends on the bed is important because it shows just how disconnected they were. Without their feeds, Titus’s friends just laid on their bed, without doing anything. This image shows just how much technology can affect a person and their personal relationships.

Laughing and cheering

Another important image is the description of the children and the description of their reaction after begin given access to their feed once more. The narrator describes them leaping and dancing with joy, expressing themselves in manners showing just how dependent they were on their feeds. This image is important because in other circumstances, the children do not express their joy in such a manner.

Image of the past

At the end of Feed Part 3: Nudging, the narrator describes a TV show entitled “Amurica: A Portrait in Geezers.” The program presents the way nature looked like in the past, with animals and birds being a common sight and with countless species of trees, plants and flowers all over. The image of the past contrasts sharply with the way the present is presented. In the time when the action takes place, the earth was no longer able to sustain many species of animals and plants and for the most part, the earth looked like a deserted wasteland. The description of the two images shows just how much the world was affected by the technological advancements exiting at that time.

Dead sea

In Feed Part 3: Seashore, Violet and Titus go to the sea. Unfortunately, instead of being a pleasant moment, they have to wear special suits to avoid being affected by the pollution. The image of the two teenagers walking on the polluted beach and calling it beautiful shows just how affected the world was by pollution.
