Eye Killers: A Novel Essay Questions

Essay Questions

  1. 1

How is love brought out in this novel?

The concept of familial love is central to the events that unfold in this novel. When Falke kidnaps Melissa, her grandfather is guided by deep feelings of familial attachment and love and sets off to save her with the help of Diana, Melissa’s teacher. The intensity of the love between a family is unquestionable as Michael finally manages to save his granddaughter, even as a Coyote. On the other hand, although twisted and quite dark, romantic love is exhibited by Falke who only kidnaps Melissa because he is guided by a deep feeling of love—the feeling that Melissa is his long-lost love, Christianne. Love is thus brought out quite un-obscurely in this novel.

  2. 2

How is conflict brought out in Eye Killers: A Novel?

Conflict is quite a dominant theme in this novel. In a way, the events that follow Melissa’s disappearance are guided by the conflict that ensues between Falke who kidnaps her, and her grandfather who is willing to risk his life to save her. When Melissa is kidnapped by Falke who thinks it is his reincarnated love, Michael has to go to extra lengths to save her. The clash between the vampires and Michael is what brings out the true flavor in Albert Carr’s Eye Killers: A Novel. Another conflict is observable between Hanna and Elizabeth where Hanna is set out to make Elizabeth’s life miserable until she decides to end her own life.

  3. 3

Explore the character of Elizabeth as brought out in this literary work.

Elizabeth is painted by the writer as quite a sensible character in this novel. For instance, she is quick to realize the evil that the eye killers bring and as such wants nothing to do with it. She sees her idea through and leaves Falke and his mistress. Despite being a vampire, Elizabeth exhibits kind-heartedness when she decides to help save Melissa from Falke and his mistress. When Michael is killed in front of her, she turns him into a vampire to help save him. Even though Michael turns into a Coyote, Elizabeth exhibits a caring character. However, the character can also be argued as suicidal as she decides to end her life seeing it as the only way out of her misery.
