Every Day deals with themes heavily related to the LGBTQ+ community, so it would be helpful to preface the teaching of the novel with a discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity so that students fully understand what it means and have guidance on how to approach this subject matter with kindness, respect, and an open-mind. Discussing these ideas will help provide a philosophical context for the main character's absence of gender identity. The novel also contains un-explicit sex scenes. Depending on the maturity of the class, it might be helpful to have a broad discussion about sexuality and its role in romantic relationships.
