    Comparing the Book to the Film

    Kind of Activity:

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will write essays that compare and contrast the novel with the film for the purpose of understanding different ways to treat the same subject matter artistically and how it can impact the way people interpret it.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.7, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.9

    Structure:

    After students finish reading Every Day, have them watch the 2018 film adaptation of the novel. As a class, discuss their overall reflections of the film. Did they like it? Did they hate it? Why?

    Now, it will be the students' job to write a formal essay...
