Irony of meditation

Ironically, although the narrator of Breathe is cynical about the meditation exercise, she actually accesses a lot of her repressed emotions through the activity.

Cynicism

The narrator of Breathe has an ironic and cynical view of those around her, including the meditation instructor. However, she is only like this due to her own sadness.

Intoxicated chimp irony

The author uses an ironic image to describe how the girl reacted after the breakup: "they broke up with her drunkenly, wildly, patting her head like some intoxicated chimp that had been taught to sign."

Irony of breaking up

The woman in "Another breakup song," says that she loves her boyfriend and never wanted to hurt him but "couldn't stop herself."

Sarcastic texting

After the breakup in "Another breakup song," she starts ironically and sarcastically texting him, changing her mind about what she wants.
