Character Analysis

Group Work

Objective:

Students will use textual evidence to create a character analysis and explain how their character helps to convey one of the themes from the novel.

Structure:

Have the students identify all the main characters and make a list together on the board.

Individually assign the students a character to analyze (Ethan, the narrator, Zeena, and Mattie; Jotham and Mrs. Hale as needed). The students should consider the character's traits, physical descriptions, thoughts, beliefs, positive/negative qualities, influences on the character, and their relationships with other major characters.
