Eragon Metaphors and Similes

Eragon Metaphors and Similes

Honesty and justice (Metaphor)

Reading the book, the reader can have a question – how to defeat and resist evil. The answer is simple – honesty and justice will help Eragon to achieve justice and defeat the worst enemy Galbatorix. Honesty and justice are “the most important instruments” of the protagonists. Only with their help, Eragon and Saphira will be able to win someone’s heart, get someone’s forgiveness and gain someone’s trust. You do not have to be cruel like Galbatorix to conquer the whole world. It is enough to be kind.

Books (Metaphor)

Jeod, who is a scholar and Eragon’s friend, likes books. He can learn many new things from books and old scrolls. For him, for example, “books are the best friends”. They are always with him. They make Jeod laugh and cry; they help him find the meaning of life! Therefore, books are not just white paper with letters, but philosophers, who teach us how to live.

Like a beast (Simile)

When Galbatorix chooses the dark side of evil, he spends many years “hiding in the wild lands, like an exhausted beast”. Moreover, he is cruel. This comparison with the wild beast proves that Galbatorix is an awful man, whom fairy-tale heroes do not respect him because of his deeds.

Severe and cold like ice (Simile)

When the dragon has hatched, Saphira immediately turns her head, staring at Eragon with “the clear, cold, blue eyes, like cold ice”. The dragon’s eyes say that the dragon can be dangerous. Eragon stands motionless, realizing that if such an enemy decides to attack him, he will be unhappy.
