Feelings

Throughout the film, we see that a regime has overtaken civilization and forced them to take doses of Prozium in order to stop them from feeling as they believe that feeling is the root cause of violence and the destruction of humanity. We watch as John begins to feel throughout the story and that his feelings are also the cause of the justice within humanity as well.

Corruption

Corruption is a major theme in the film; indeed, Father and Dupont impose upon everyone the idea that they are leaders supreme. They instill in everyone that war, murder and violence come from feelings thus they end war by ending feelings. Paradoxically, Dupont himself has been feeling for years and has only sought to control the civilization created by Father. He has his taste of power and will do anything to keep it.

Uprising

While there is Father and his regime there is also the uprising that resists what is being done to humanity and civilization. John becomes part of the uprising even though he is one of the highest ranking clerics in the regime. As he begins to feel, he starts to understand the beauty of life that people are no longer exposed to, and he seeks to put an end to the suppression of humanity by a small powerful few.
