Poetic Devices
Kind of Activity:
Group Work
Objective:
Students will be able to identify and analyze figurative language in Joyce's prose
Common Core Standards:

Structure:
Working in pairs, students should conduct a "scavenger hunt" to find examples of poetic devices in the stories read for today. Devices might include, among others:
alliteration
onomatopoeia
anthropomorphism
zoomorphism
metaphor
simile
Together, they can first look online to find definitions for these terms, and subsequently find examples in the text, preferably a unique example for each poetic device. They should also write a sentence or two...
