Online dating profile
The author figuratively uses the online dating profile to symbolize family’s influence on Meddelin’s life. Meddelin’s decision to date Jake is influenced by her mother, who makes an online dating profile to link her with Jake. The family's influence burdens Meddelin because her family must approve of everything she does. Consequently, Meddelin is unhappy with her life because she has no option but to impress her mother and aunts by doing what they want. Meddelin's aunts dictate what they want her to do, and if she goes against them, they get irritated. Therefore, Meddelin is in a crisis because she has to sacrifice her happiness for the sake of others.
The death of Jake
Jake’s death symbolizes Meddelin’s destiny. Meddelin's true love is Nathan, but circumstances are keeping them apart. When she dates Jake, she gets the worst experience in life. However, the decision to date Jake is not based on Meddelin's love. While driving back from the date, they get involved in an accident, and Jake dies. Later, Nathan is arrested on claims that he killed Jake, but he is later released. After Nathan's release, he reunites with Meddelin, and they reignite their romance. Later, Nathan proposes to marry Meddelin, and that fulfills her dreams.
The corpse
The author allegorically uses Jake's corpse to symbolize chaos. The death of Jake destabilizes Meddelin's peace of mind. Meddelin and her family hide his body inside the fridge while trying to think of the next move. When the family moves to the wedding venue, they realize the corpse is inside the fridge. Ma and her sisters, alongside Meddelin, decide to make all attendants drunk so they can dress the corpse in a suit and dump him in the ocean. Chaos breaks out when the groomsmen are drunk, allowing Meddelin's family to dress the corpse and throw it in the ocean.
