Taylor Jenkins Reid's urban fiction, Daisy Jones and the Six, follows the lives and journeys of the six band members and Daisy Jones. Daisy develops a love for music in her childhood. She begins performing in bars and clubs at 14, where she meets many influential people. Due to her parents' negligence, Daisy leads a troubled life and starts using drugs. Over time, she realizes that her lovers steal the ideas she could use for her music. Determined to take control of her career, she decides to start fresh under the label Runner Records.
Meanwhile, the Dunne Brothers invite talented artists to join their band, and after Karen Sirko joins, they change the band's name to the Six. The band's first album becomes a hit, and they plan a music tour to celebrate their success. Billy, the group's leader, marries his girlfriend Camila after learning about her pregnancy. Billy's drinking and drug habits worsen, leading him to decide to go into rehab for the sake of his newborn baby and Camila. Meanwhile, Daisy's new label initially prevents her from recording her music, but her debut album still gains some popularity.
After returning from rehab, Billy works harder on writing songs, and his manager, Teddy, suggests a duet with Daisy. While working together, Daisy changes some of the lyrics, which angers Billy, but the song becomes a hit. Daisy joins the Six, and they begin recording their new album. Initially, Billy and Daisy do not get along, but ultimately, they assist each other in writing their songs. After spending so much time together, Daisy gets attracted to Billy and initiates a kiss. Billy knows he can't cheat on his wife, so he tries to focus on their work. After recording, Daisy goes to Thailand, marries Niccolo, an Italian prince, and settles in Italy for a while.
The band members find Daisy's behavior odd and exclude her as a member, but Daisy comes back and joins the tour. Her relationship with Billy sours even more as she continues taking drugs. Meanwhile, other band members are dealing with relationships and management issues.
Eddie and Billy's relationship also becomes strained due to their differing opinions. Daisy decides to control her addiction and divorces her husband. After the band wins a Grammy Award, Daisy and Billy's relationship improves, and they grow closer. Camila, aware of the affair between Billy and Daisy, does not get angry but instead has a heartfelt conversation with Daisy. After the tour gets canceled, the group disbands. The book's author turns out to be Julia, Camila's daughter.
