Daisy Jones and The Six Irony

Daisy Jones and The Six Irony

The irony of Billy and Daisy’s admiration

The irony of Daisy and Billy's confrontation is that they both have great admiration for each other's music, but that same admiration also threatens their sobriety and future in music. Daisy's beauty and musical aptitude provoke Billy's inner issues, and he is constantly battling his addiction. Daisy feels like an outsider in the band because of Billy's influence and the strength of his music, and she believes she will never be able to make it on her own. The irony is that, while they are both inspired by one other's music, their mutual appreciation threatens to split them apart.

Irony of rehab

Billy's predicament is ironic given that his mentors and parents, Teddy Price and his wife Camila, are the ones who introduced him to drugs and rock 'n' roll. They are the ones that expose him to these things, but they are also the ones who push him to go to rehab to get sober. This is odd because they are both aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol usage, yet they exposed Billy to it and encouraged him to seek a career in rock n roll. It's particularly ironic because Teddy and Camila are not only urging Billy to get sober, but they also benefit from it by helping the band become more successful.

Irony of rejection

It is ironic that Daisy is made a recording artist for Runner Records despite her music being rejected. Daisy always desired her own creative identity and to be taken seriously as an artist, but the only way she can be successful is as part of a band, not as a solo artist. Even though she is a brilliant singer and songwriter, her music is not regarded as good enough to be part of the record business. Instead, Daisy is offered the opportunity to work with Billy's band, The Six, and their duet is what propels them to popularity. Daisy's music is underappreciated despite her talent, whereas the duet with Billy is the trigger.

Irony of music as a solace

It's ironic that once their father abandons the family, Billy Dunne and his brother Graham turn to music for solace, but it's the same music that eventually tears them apart. When Billy and Graham join The Six, they can come together and find peace in their music. Daisy Jones is introduced to the band, and her beauty and talent set up an underlying fight between Billy and Daisy. Eventually, Billy's battles with sobriety and Daisy's rising star cause a schism between them, resulting in the band's dissolution. In the end, the music that had offered Billy and Graham peace in the aftermath of their father's absence becomes the very force that pushes them apart.
