Cloud Cuckoo Land Irony

Cloud Cuckoo Land Irony

The satire of Seymour

Seymour is introduced as a seventeen-year-old boy who has a passion for environmental activism. Ironically, Seymour disregards his call for nature conservation and sets a bomb which nearly kills all the children rehearsing to perform Cloud Cuckoo Land. However, Zeno's heroic action that claimed his life saved all the children from the explosion.

The Irony of Argos

In most parts of the book, the reader and Konstance believe that Argos is an intergenerational ship about to reach its destination. Unfortunately, all the people inside Argos are attacked and killed by a plague except Konstance. Towards the end of the story, Konstance is shocked to realize that Argos was never a ship but an earth experiment.

The sardonic life of Aethon

Aethon is a satirical character, and his entire life is filled with fantasy. For instance, he dreams of being a bird to fly to an imaginative city in the sky. Similarly, the reader learns that Aethon transforms into a donkey during his adventures and is captured. Luckily, disguised as a donkey, Aethon manages to escape. Later, he converts into a fish and is consumed by sea mortals. Finally, in his fantasies, Aethon reaches the imaginative city in the sky called 'Cloud Cuckoo land.'

The Irony of Zeno

Zeno's heroic action to save the children from an explosive is a moment of paradox. Zeno knew that the bomb would kill him, but he soldiered on to grab it because his primary motivation was to save the children. Unfortunately, Zeno dies in the explosion, but later Seymour regrets his actions and carries on the dreams and ambitions of Zeno by compiling Zeno's translation into a book and handing it over to the children saved by Zeno.
