The narrator
The narrator in each of the stories is a person struggling with their sexuality and battling with AIDS. The first three stories are concerned with family relations, while the rest are concerned with coping with the life with the disease.
Reynaldo
Reynaldo is a character from the second story who appears in a ghost form in front of the grandson of his friend Jesus to tell him about his grandfather's life.
David
David is a character from the story "Chivalry". He is the narrator's cousin to whom he forms a close bond.
Denise
Denise is the character from the story "Baptism". She is the female narrator's cousin who lives with her because Denise's father tried to assault her.
John
John is a character from several of the poems from the collection. He is the speaker's lover who gets hospitalized because of the disease, and the poems describe the speaker's struggle with the pain of losing a loved one.
