Bunny Background

Mona Awad's Bunny was first published in June 2019. Awad's novel follows a young woman named Samantha Heather Mackey, who feels like an outsider in her tiny and incredibly selective Master of Fine Art Arts program at a university in New England. Many of the women in her program are called "bunny," and Mackey doesn't like any of them. Mackey thinks that the so-called "bunnies" are rich and snooty. But things change when Mackey gets invited to one of the bunnies' parties. And over time, she is drawn into their complex and often strange world.

When it was published, Bunny received warm reviews. Kirkus Reviews offered a mostly positive review of Awad's novel. They wrote Awad's novel is "Wickedly sharp, if not altogether pleasant, it’s a near-perfect realization of a singular vision—and definitely not for everyone." The Los Angeles Times offered a more effusive review, writing that "With her second book, Awad has proved herself one of the most innovative and original authors out there, and “Bunny” is a wild, audacious and ultimately unforgettable novel."
