“I wish I knew how to quit you.”
Jack is very angry that Ennis does not agree to live with him. They could have a good life together, a fucking real good life. However, Ennis refuses to do it, so everything what they have is Brokeback Mountain. Everything is built on this mountain. This is all that two men have and they should not rely on something else. How many times have they been together in twenty years? Ennis is holding Jack on a tight leash. Ennis has no idea how bad it gets. Ennis is not Jack. They have different characters. Jack is not patient, and he cannot have one or two meetings a year somewhere in the mountains. Jack cannot stand this, but he cannot leave Ennis, because Jack loves him.
“If you cannot fix it, you have to stand it.”
It is incredible and unbearably difficult to lose a loved one, who is trying to make your life better and live for the sake of you. After Jack’s death, Ennis is broken and psychologically depressed. He often sees Jack in his dreams – Jack is the same as he was during their first meeting. Because of this, Ennis wakes up in a pinching anguish and sometimes with the old sense of joy and release. There is always an open space between what he knows and what he is trying to believe, but nothing could be done about it. It is impossible to change the past. Therefore, it is easier to be reconciled to his fate and live with this pain until the end of life.
“The lesson was, don’t say nothing and get it over with quick.”
Ennis Del Mar grew up with his brother K.E., three years older than he, slugged Ennis silly every day. Dad got tired, when Ennis was bawling in the house. When Ennis was about six, his dad sat him down and said that if he gets a problem and he does not fix it, his problem will be with him until he is ninety and K.E. – ninety-three. Surely, K.E. was bigger than Ennis. However, nothing can make somebody to hear better than pain. You do not need to solve everything with the help of fight, but in Ennis’s case, the force is needed. Ennis’s father teaches to be strong and be able to stand up for yourself, because you do not know what life has prepared for you.
