Birdshot Irony

Birdshot Irony

Using a gun

Maya is taught how to use the gun so she can protect herself. However, teaching her to shoot a gun ironically led to danger.

First time shooting

Maya isn't a prolific shooter and has only just learned how to shoot a gun. However, Maya ironically shoots a rare and endangered eagle on her first time practicing shooting by herself.

Growing up

We usually associated growing up and maturing with a greater sense of awareness and wisdom. However, this film associates entering the adult world with a proclivity for violence, represented by Maya's killing of the eagle.

Rural Philippines

Typically, rural Philippines is not depicted as a place of violence in films. However, in this film, the rural is ironically depicted as a place of great violence and bloodshed.
