Aura Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

The colour green

Montero is first drawn to Aura due to her incredibly bright green eyes. They captivate him and seem to represent her ethereal beauty. Aura is also described as wearing a green dress during the text, and during intimate scenes between herself and Montero. As the color green often represents life and fertility, it might be seen in this text to represent and emphasize Aura's youth.

Darkness

When Montero visits Consuelo's house it is completely dark, lit only by the small light of candles. Montero's struggle to see in the house represents his wider struggle to understand what is happening in the house, and what the connection is between Consuelo and Aura. The darkness of the house also emphasizes the supernatural events happening around him.
