Jasmine “Jazz” Bashara
Jazz was born on earth but moved to Artemis city after her mother died. She was raised by her father, Ammar Bashara, and her uncle Mr. Nakoshi. Jazz works as a porter but also smuggles contraband into Artemis so she could make extra money. After her mother died, Jazz started acting out and was constantly getting into trouble. On one occasion, her father’s shop burned down when she and her friends sneaked in to smoke marijuana.
As the book progresses, Jazz finds herself caught in a much bigger plot with members of Artemis who seek to control the city.
Trond Landvik
Trond is one of the richest men in Artemis. He made most of his fortune in the telecommunication industry. After a crash accident killed his wife, Trond moved to Artemis with his daughter who is now paralyzed from the waist down. However, due to the difference in gravity on the moon, his daughter Lene can move using clutches rather than a wheelchair.
Trond is also a regular customer of Jazz, he enjoys smoking Dominican cigars which are illegal in the city and have to be smuggled in.
Jin Chu
Jin Chu is a selfish and self-absorbed representative of the Hong Kong Corporation. He studied at prestigious schools abroad where he learned to speak English fluently. When the Hong Kong Corporation wanted to expand their business to the moon, they sent Chu to represent their interests. Chu approached Trond for a possible merger but later betrayed him for more money.
Kelvin Otieno
Kelvin is an old friend of Jazz from Earth. The two grew up together and even went to the same school. Currently, Kelvin is working for the KSC: he is in charge of all the cargo being loaded onto the freights leaving for Artemis. He uses his influence to hide Jazz’s contraband so she could sell them. He is also very loyal and dedicated to his family. Kelvin works for long hours to support his parents and four sisters.
Irina Vetrov
Irina works for Trond’s family as a maid but only as a disguise for her actual job as a personal bodyguard. She has worked for Trond for many years and takes her job very seriously. Irina and Jazz have an indifferent relationship since she always asks Jazz to state her business each time she makes a delivery despite delivering cigars to Trond hundreds of times.
