Creativity Through Videos
2. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.
I can’t draw, I don’t paint, and I certainly can’t dance, but I can still create art. Video editing is a an art of supreme sensitivity and I have been developing my skills since I was 13 years old. Movies and videos have the power to make you laugh, gasp, or cry, just as the most affecting traditional art does. Additionally, I love the problem solving aspect. I faced one of my biggest problems while working on my favorite school project. I had a beautifully crafted five-minute video that unfortunately was five-minutes short of the required length. Adding five more minutes of filmed scenes was not an option; so I decided to write a texting conversation, then do a screen recording on my computer of the conversation using the iMessage app.
After over 20 hours of hard work, the video turned out to be a huge success. My APUSH teacher loved the creative use of film and texting to illustrate the similarities and differences of the flapper movement of the 20’s and the hippie movement of the 60s. For me, creativity is not a mere burst of brilliance; it is having an idea and bringing it to life.
