Kreon
Kreon is the King of Thebes. He's taken over after Polyneikes and Eteokles have killed each other in battle (they were former Kings of Thebes). Kreon has issued an edict that no one is to bury Polyneikes and stands by it at great cost in order to maintain power in his new position as King of Thebes.
Antigone
Antigone is the protagonist of the play. She attempts to bury her brother's body so that he will be able to pass on into the afterlife with their parents. She is stopped by Kreon's guards and will not relent to the new King of Thebes. She is daughter of Oedipus and sister to the former Kings Eteokles and Polyneikes.
Haemon
Haemon is the son of Kreon and in love with Antigonick. He attempts to stop his father from killing his love, but when he won't Haemon takes it upon himself to stop it. But he is too late and out of his hatred for his father takes his own life.
Ismene
Ismene is the sister of Antigonick and daughter of Oedipus. Her brothers were Polyneikes and Eteokles. She had agreed to bury Polyneikes with Antigonick but believes it is better to live. Her sister has already performed the burial before she attempts to dissuade her.
Eurydike
Eurydike is the Queen of Thebes. A minor character in the play who makes a major statement when she kills herself. She does so after her son Haemon has taken his life because Kreon won't stop his death sentence upon Antigonick.
Nick
Nick remains on stage for the duration of the play. He is mute and his purpose is to measure things on the stage.
Teiresias
Teiresias is the blind prophet of Thebes. He is known to be ignored by those most in need of his advice.
