Angela's Ashes is the first of three memoirs that McCourt wrote. Students may consider reading 'Tis and Teacher Man as well. In addition, McCourt's brother, Malachy McCourt, produced several memoirs and other works of his own, including A Monk Swimming and Singing My Him Song.

One of the most famous Irish works about childhood, published long before Angela's Ashes, is Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
