All This Could Be Different Themes

Sexuality

Sexuality is one of the main themes in the novel All This Could Be Different. Sneha is in her early twenties and discovering her sexual freedom. In the free world, sexual preference is a matter of choice, and Sneha decides to pursue romance from fellow women. Sneha meets Marina, and they fall in love. However, their relationship is less rosy than Sneha expected. Consequently, the novel shows that same-sex marriages are a norm in the United States, and people are free to express their sexual desires without fear of intimidation

The life of immigrants

The novel introduces an immigrant family, Sneha and her family, living in the United States of America. The unfair treatment and deportation of Sneha's father show that the life of immigrants in the United States is not easy. Sneha's father is charged with a crime he never committed, and he has to pay the price because he is an immigrant. Sneha's struggles with her employer and landlord also demonstrate that immigrants are mistreated despite doing their best to promote coexistence.

The theme of friendship

Sneha and her friend Tig and Thom are close friends who stand up for each other in good and bad times. When Sneha gets an employment opportunity in a corporate company, she takes Thom alongside her so that they can all get recruited. Similarly, Tig sticks by Sneha when the landlord threatens to evict them from their house due to late payment of house rent. Consequently, these three characters demonstrate true friendship by always standing for each other.
