Sneha
Sneha is the central character in the novel All This Could Be Different. Sneha's parents are Indians who migrated to the United States to search for greener pastures. Sneha is the only member of her family born in America and gets the privilege of studying at an American university. Shortly before Sneha graduates from university, her father is charged and deported to India.
Sneha graduated in 2010, when the United States faced economic depression. Fortunately, she secures a consultancy job. Sneha is lucky because most of her fellow graduates cannot secure jobs. After all, most companies are downsizing their staff to cope with the high production costs.
Sneha’s parents
Sneha's parents are Indian immigrants. Unfortunately, when Sneha is about to graduate, her father is charged and deported to India. Sneha's mother finds it hard to continue living in America, and she decides to follow her husband to settle with him in India. Therefore, Sneha is left in America alone and is expected to support her parents financially.
Marina
Marina is Sneha’s lover. Marina and Sneha belong to the LGBTQ community and are proud of their identities. However, their relationship only lasts briefly because Sneha gets bored with it.
Thom
Thom and Sneha went to the same college. At first, Sneha felt that Thom never liked her. In addition, Sneha was scared of Thom's girlfriend. However, Sneha later realized that Thom and his girlfriend were friendly people. When Sneha got a job opportunity, she invited Thom to work with her.
Thom’s girlfriend
Sneha describes Thom's girlfriend as gorgeous, loving, and caring. Later, Thom's girlfriend forms a formidable bond with Sneha.
Peter
Peter owns a consultancy firm. He is intelligent, tactical, and hardworking. Despite operating in a volatile economy, he remains afloat when other businesses close due to high operational costs. Peter employs Sneha as a consultant after she graduates from college. Peter is willing to pay Sneha $23 per hour. However, Sneha requests to be paid $30 per hour.
