Why do you think Werner tells Volkheimer about the radio transmission that he's been lying about for weeks? What do you make of Volkheimmer's response?

Since both Werner and Volkheimer believe that they are going to die soon, both young men have taken to revealing more of their true selves and being honest with each other. In addition, Volkheimer has revealed himself to be much more of a soft-hearted person than Werner originally realized.
